Statement on the Assault on Medical Personnel at El Fasher Specialized Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Last Tuesday, 8th. February 2022 , Security Forces assaulted the medical staff at El Fasher Specialized Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology in North Darfur State, while performing their duties. They waived with weapons inside the hospital with complete disregard to the conditions of patients, or observing respect for the sanctity of hospitals.
In response to this grave violation and threat,, the doctors in the hospital Immediately went on total strike, until their demands of providing secure work environment, arresting the perpetrators and implementing the Medical Personnel Protection Law, are fulfilled.
This breach was not the first of its kind; similar violations continued to be repeated in this hospital, without any action or punishment taken against those who are responsible for them.
Due to lack of accountability, the situation becomes worse after each attack, as the behavior of the security forces gets more violent, putting
the lives of the patients at risk.
We point out that during the past two years, the rate of assaults on medical personnel in the State has increased. After every incident, follow-up committees are formed, but the authorities do not show commitment towards penalizing the perpetrators.
The authorities are irresponsive to all such continued violations which are not justified by any a covenant or oath.
The Coup authorities that absented all the State’s organs, judicial and public service institutions, is responsible for all these health and humanitarian disasters that happen to our people, and put the lives of medical staff and patients at risk. It is ironical that most of these attacks are perpetrated by those responsible for assuring the security and safety of the citizens.
The Unified Office believes in the rightfulness of the cause of doctors and other medical staff in North Darfur and affirms the following:
1- The State authorities should immediately arrest the perpetrators. We ascertain that they are known and can be identified by one patient in the hospital. The incidents were documented at the moment of the infringement.
.2- We invite all medical cadres in the State to stand solidly behind their cause by engaging in a strike for cold cases in all North Darfur State health institutions, including private hospitals and private clinics, to pressure speeding up the process of legal procedures.
.3- We hope that all medical cadres in all other States of Sudan will show solidarity with this incident in the ways they deem appropriate.
